Joszef (Joseph) Ebner was a Hungarian-born striker, who became naturalised as a Frenchman. He began his career in French football with SO Montpellier in 1935. He was a renowned goalscorer, and Stade Rennais signed him in 1937. His first season in a Rennes shirt would prove to be a promising one, with Ebner scoring 14 goals for his new club. His second would prove to be the most successful, and prolific. He went on to score 37 goals in the Second Division, as part of a Rennes attack which amassed no fewer than 112 goals in total. At the end of the 1938/1939 season, with the outbreak of the Second World War, professional football was put on standby. He joined Penhoët Saint Nazaire, with whom he would reach the final of the West of France Cup in 1941. He returned to Rennes in 1942, but his gametime dwindled progressively. In 1944, he signed for ASPO Tours, where he would spend two seasons, before ending his career in the role of Player/Manager with Montluçon.
