Czech striker Jozef Navra began his footballing journey in his native country with Viktoria Zisko. He then went on to play in the Netherlands for Maastricht, before signing up to the French Foreign Legion in Sidi Bel Abbès in Algeria. There, he would get to know Pépi Schneider (former Player/Manager for Stade Rennais, between 1933-1936), and was convinced to join Stade Rennais University Club at the end of the Second World War. Having been a German prisoner of war, then liberated at the end of the conflict, he signed for Rennes in 1945. He would only make the rare appearance for the club, however, making just two appearances on matchdays 2 and 3 of the First Division season, against Strasbourg and Sète. He chose to finish his brief stay in Brittany after just one season.
