Just like his older brother Jonathan, Kevin Bru didn’t live up to the expectations people had of him. Arriving at the National Football Centre in Clairefontaine aged 15, he excelled in the younger age-groups, but was unable to make the step up. Along with the likes of Marveaux, Kembo-Ekoko and Danzé, he signed his first professional contract in the january 2007, and made his professional debut in the French Cup against Romarantin. On that evening, the team let things slip, and lost 1-3 after extra-time. Kevin Bru didn’t escape the consequences of the disastrous display, and was substituted at half-time. After messing up on his debut, things went from bad to worse in the League Cup where there was more disappointment, with Rennes losing 0-2 to Valenciennes. His future in Brittany was compromised, and after loan spells at Châteauroux and then at Clermont, he hadn’t done enough to work his way back into the senior side in Rennes, this in spite of winning the French Reserve Team championship in 2007. In January 2010, he made a permanent move to Dijon, having failed to convince Rennes boss Frédéric Antonetti.
