Lhadji Badiane arrived in Brittany in post-training at the age of 18 from Gueugnon. Slender and pacy, the Strasbourg native impressed Pierre Dréossi during a good season in the CFA (French 4th Division) with the Reserves in 2006/2007. He signed a professional contract in 2007 and made his debut as early as the month of August. His appearances as a sub were a bit disjointed, but he even managed to win a penalty during an away game at Auxerre on 29th August 2007. Sylvain Wiltord, magnanimous, left the youngster the chance to transform the penalty he had obtained himself, but Rémy Riou, the Auxerre goalkeeper, saved his effort. It was a real shame, as the opportunities to shine became progressively rare after that. The competition became too difficult, and new Manager Lacombe didn’t have faith in him. Badiane was loaned to Clermont (Ligue 2) for a season which proved to be encouraging, scoring 6 goals. When he returned however, Antonetti froze him out, and he returned to playing for the Reserves, extended his contract, then went on loan to Dijon before signing for Laval in 2011.
