Lorenz ASSIGNON

Mainstay of the youth teams at Stade Rennais since his arrival at the Academy, Lorenz Assignon signed his first professional contract on 3rd March 2020. The youngster from Grasse shone with his versatility. Having been coached as a right-back throughout his time at the Academy, he also demonstrated his ability to adapt his game to play in midfield or central defence. After 11 appearances on the First Team teamsheet, including matches in the 2020/2021 Champions League campaign, he was loaned to Bastia in the French Third Division (National 1) on 31st January 2021. After a successful loan spell in Corsica, Assignon signed a contract extension on 12th July 2021 which committed him to Rennes until 2025. He then became the understudy to the indispensable club captain, Hamari Traoré for two seasons, notably scoring his first goal as a professional footballer in the Europa League at Larnaca on 8th September 2022. The goal figured in UEFA's Top-10 strikes in the Europa League. With Traoré's departure from Rennes in June 2023, Assignon became the heir apparent to the right-back spot, and signed a contract extension on 6th July 2023, tying him to the club until 2027.
