Stade Rennais signed Lovro Majer on the 26th August 2021 from Dinamo Zagreb. Majer is a Croatian International and was a key member of Dinamo Zagreb's regular first-choice starting line-up at the time of his arrival in Rennes. The talented playmaker signed a contract for 5 seasons with Rennes in exchange for a transfer fee of 12 Million Euros plus 3 Million Euros in potential bonuses. After a first couple of months which were disrupted by injury, he would have an excellent 2021/2022 season, in the image of the team, with the Croat scoring six goals from midfield. Courted by numerous high-profile clubs during the summer of 2022, Majer chose to remain with Rennes, and even extended his contract by a year on 22nd October 2022. Despite being adored by the Rennes fans, he would have a difficult second season in Red and Black. Below-par displays, and the repositioning of Benjamin Bourigeaud to his preferred position, in the heart of midfield, meant that he would end up alternating between a place in the starting line-up and the bench, even if he regularly ended up getting onto the pitch. After a final appearance as a Rennes player on Matchday 1 of the 2022/2023 season, coming on as a substitute in a 5-1 victory over Metz, Majer would leave Brittany to join Wolfsburg in Germany on 16th August 2023. He signed for the original Volkswagen works' team for 30 Million Euros, with 5 Million Euros in bonuses and a 15% resale fee. An undeniably talented attacking midfielder, his stay will live long in the memories of the fans at Roazhon Park, scoring 9 goals and chipping in with 14 assists in his 79 appearances, of which 53 were made in the starting line-up.
