In 1995, Stade Rennais lost 3 professional goalkeepers, and signed two new ones (Panduric and Le Garrec) whilst giving a chance to two up-and-coming youngsters from the Academy: Tony Heurtebis and Ludovic Roy. Roy was one of the most promising young keepers in France, as was proven by his title of U18 European Champion with France, alongside the likes of Gallas, Silvestre, Bigné, Anelka, Henry and Trezeguet in 1996. He may have been an understudy in the team, he had gained a lot of useful experience training with the First Team squad at Rennes. With Roy still not having made a single appearance on a team-sheet, Rennes signed Fabien Debec from Lyon in the Summer transfer window in 1996 to complete their squad. Ludovic Roy had now dropped to 4th choice goalkeeper, and left the club in 1997 to spend two years as understudy at Châteauroux. In the end, he had a creditable career with clubs between the Scottish 1st and 2nd Divisions.
