Part of the class of the year 2000, Mathis Lachuer is a agile and technically-gifted midfielder, mainly used in a defensive role, and equally capable of helping out in the heart of the defence. He is the nephew of Yann Lachuer, and son of Julien Lachuer, both of whom played professionally for Rennes in the First and Second Divisions respectively. He began his playing career with the Ploufragan regional U21 academy, and then had trials with Lyon, Monaco and Paris, before eventually being picked up by Stade Rennais in 2015. He spent four seasons in development with the Red and Blacks, but was not retained by the club, which left him with a bitter taste, seeing this release as a failure. In 2019, he went on trial with Amiens, which was to prove conclusive. He then began to gain experience with the Reserves at Amiens, even becoming their captain, before turning professional with the club from the Picardy region of France in 2021.
