Having arrived at the club in the youth team, aged 8, Matthieu Huard climbed every step on the ladder at Stade Rennais FC. In 2013, the left back joined the Academy, and signed his first professional contract on 25th May 2018. After a top-notch season in the Reserves in National 3 (French 5th Division), and two call-ups to the professional squad for the matches in Astana and against Montpellier, he was released by a club that he had served faithfully for 12 years in May 2019. In July of the same year, he joined AC Ajaccio in Ligue 2 after a successful trial.
