Product of the Stade Rennais Academy set-up, Michel Beaulieu would spend most of his time playing in the Amateur team, but did manage to get called up to the professional senior squad in the 1967/1968 season. Under the leadership of Jean Prouff, he made 18 appearances for Rennes, be would be progressively frozen out of the reckoning by the arrival of Jazdzyk on the scene at centre-back. This would prove to be his only season with the professional side, as he moved on to play for the amateur side in Redon. In 1978, he returned to Stade Rennais to take on different roles at the club, including Director of the Stade Rennais Academy until 1987, and coach of the youth team. For almost 30 years, he would be part of the club's organigram, becoming Administration and Sports Manager for the Amateur section with Rennes, and he managed the C-Team until 2007, at which point he took a well-earned retirement from the game..
