Mohamed Jallow’s arrival in Brittany from Sweden in 2007 was unheralded. The Gambian-Swedish player had caught the eye of Rennes’ scouting staff in Scandinavia as a defensive midfielder. Faced with Yann M’Vila as competition in the Youth team and Reserves, he was unable to impress, and didn’t even get a game in the victorious run in the Gambardella Cup (French FA Youth Cup). Far from the bright future which seemed assured to his team-mates, he returned to Sweden to sign for Kalmar, where he spend just 6 months before finally obtaining his first professional contract with Assyriska in the Swedish 2nd Division at the end of 2008. Repositioned as a centre-back, he finally managed to string a run of games together.
