In the Summer of 2008, Nicolas Douchez arrived from Toulouse in a 2 Million Euros deal to replace the disappointing duo of Pouplin and Luzi. In the just a few matches, the goalkeeper managed to convince everyone, notably in the never-ending penalty shoot-out in Simferopol (won 10-9). Hardly called into action behind a solid defence, he was regularly decisive in a season he played 50 out of 52 matches. The only real blemish on his record were two “avoidable” goals conceded in the 1-2 French Cup Final defeat against Guingamp in 2009. In the 2009/2010 season, his form was less impressive under Antonetti, mainly because he was playing through the pain barrier. The club only offered him an insignificant payrise in May 2010, and brought in Carrasso as competition. In 2010/2011, Douchez had his best season, with a call up to France’s national team. The Breton then tried to make an effort from a financial perspective to keep their goalkeeper, but it was too late, and the goalkeeper joined Paris Saint Germain on a free-transfer, when his contract ran out..
