Signed in the summer of 2010, Onyekachi Apam arrived from OGC Nice for 4 Million Euros. Antonetti was his old Manager at Nice, and so knew his worth. The Nigerian was supposed to compensate for the departure of emblematic skipper Hansson, who was transferred to Monaco. Unfortunately, Apam struggled with a difficult rehabilitation period after a knee operation, and spent his entire first season at Rennes sidelined with injury. The young Kana-Biyik and Boye took advantage of his absence to cement a place as regular First Teamers. From December 2011, he managed to get fit enough to play one game a fortnight, without ever being able to convince his manager in his few appearances. After just 31 appearances in three-and-a-half years, Apam had his contract terminated by mutual consent in January 2014. In September of that year, he signed for the Seattle Sounders in the MLS.
