Defender born in Nantes, Patrick Jacotin arrived at Laval in 1973, aged 19. The Tango and Blacks were playing in the French First Division at the time, but he would make only the odd appearance with the Professional side. Indeed, he would make just one solitary appearance in his first season, followed by ten or so appearances in his second year at the club, making a total of 16 matches for Laval. He left in 1976 to join Le Mans, and was subsequently scouted and signed by Stade Rennais in 1978. His game-time at Rennes would be very limited, however, as he was only given a brief appearance totalling a few minutes replacing Alain Borne on the last day of the 1978/1979 season against Châteauroux (2-0). He left Rennes during the summer of that season, but remained in Brittany, closing out his playing days with Ploërmel.
