Even before the club were sure that their international goalkeeper Benoît Costil was leaving, Stade Rennais brought in Paul Nardi on loan from Monaco without a buyout option on 21st June 2016. The U21 international goalkeeper came to Brittany to gain some game-time, which he wasn’t getting in Monaco. With Costil staying at the club, Nardi only had one match for Rennes. At Monaco in the League Cup, he was on the receiving end of a collective disaster for his side in a 0-7 hammering, even if it was a bit harsh on him. On 2nd January 2016, his loan was cancelled, and he returned to Monaco, who immediately loaned him back out to Cercle Bruges in the Belgian Second Division.
