Pedro Mendes signed for Stade Rennais on a 4-year contract on 26th June 2015. Born in Switzerland, this centre-back and Portuguese U21 international was also capable of playing as right-back or as a defensive midfielder. After a convincing season with Parma, he joined Rennes on a free transfer as the Italian club had just filed for bankruptcy, and had to release all their players. After spells at Sporting Portugal, Sassuolo, Sevette and Real Madrid, Mendes came initially as an understudy to the centre-back pairing of Mexer and Armand. After a mixed bag in his first season, and with a rather cold relationship with boss Courbis, he was named Club Captain the next season by new Manager Christian Gourcuff in the Summer of 2016. During the Autumn, however, he suffered in the face of the meteoric rise of Joris Gnagnon, and progressively got left out of the side. After 44 matches in Red and Black, he signed for Montpellier on 17th July 2017.
