Victim of financial difficulties, Stade Rennais had to be shrewd in the transfer market in the Summer of 1997. Pierre Maroselli arrived with Lévenard and Di Constanzo in that context. Although born in Rennes, this pure Corsican player arrived relatively late on the scene as a professional footballer, aged 23, before becoming a lynchpin in the starting line-up at SC Bastia, notably under Antonetti. This centre-back, with distinctive blond hair, came in to replace the departures of Denis, Jensen and Smith on a like-for-like basis in David’s team. He was the understudy to the centre-back pairing of Capron and Rossi, and spent most of his time on the bench, making the odd cameo appearance at the end of games. When Rossi got injured in the Autumn of that season, he strung together 5 of his 6 starts in a Rennes shirt. At the end of the season, he returned to his homeland in Corsica where he had a successful spell at the heart of AC Ajaccio’s defence in the Second Division.
