On Wednesday 11th January 2017, Stade Rennais welcomed goalkeeper Raïs M’Bohli on an 18-month deal. Just a few days after the premature end to Paul Nardi’s loan spell, the club found a new understudy for the untouchable Benoît Costil. The French-Algerian goalkeeper was well-known to Manager Christian Gourcuff, who had coached him during his spell as Manager of the Algerian national side. And it was with Algeria that M’Bohli had shone, being one of the best goalkeepers in the World Cup in Brazil in 2014. After 14 appearances on the team-sheet as substitute goalkeeper, he managed his one and only appearance in Red and Black on 26th August 2017 at Toulouse (2-3 defeat). With the additional competition from Abdoulaye Diallo and with the arrival of Tomas Koubek at the end of the transfer window, Raïs M’Bohli had his contract cancelled by mutual consent, with 7 months still left to run, on 15th November 2017.
