In the Summer of 2007, Rod Fanni finally signed for Stade Rennais for 3.5 Million Euros after a long stand-off with the directors at his club OGC Nice. With Dréossi as manager, he was an instant his on the right-hand side of defence, and even managed to make the locals forget Melchiot. Faultless in defence, he regularly played an active part in attacks, demonstrating his pace, power and technical ability. When Lacombe arrived at the end of 2007, Fanni was burdened by his defensive tasks, and his season was ended by an ankle injury. In the 2008/2009 season, he scored the first goal of the season for Rennes in the win against Simferopol (1-0) and consistently put in good performances throughout the season, which ended in the French Cup Final defeat to Guingamp (1-2). He was more disappointing in 2009/2010 under the tenure of Antonetti, but he remained the DJ in the dressing room, and managed to get his first caps with France’s national side. After an abortive departure in the Summer, he left to join Marseille in December 2010 for 4 Million Euros, leaving his berth at right-back to Romain Danzé.
