In July 2014, Stade Rennais FC hired the services of the very promising Sanjin Prcic. Born in Belfort, this central midfielder of French-Bosnian origins had been developed at FC Sochaux, and joined Rennes on a 4-year contract. After being used at the beginning of the season, he was progressively sidelined by a coach who preferred Abdoulaye Doucouré to him. Despite scoring a goal against Nice at the end of the season, the Bosnian was invited to leave during the close season. He was loaned out to Torino with a buyout clause on 31st August 2015, on the last day of the transfer window. When he returned, he was given 28 matches under Christian Gourcuff in the 2016/2017 season, and he really came into his own under Sabri Lamouchi in 2018, with a position of midfield general in a 4-1-4-1 formation. With the club qualified for the Europa League, Prcic (who “eats drinks and sleeps football”) left the club on a free transfer to join Strasbourg at the end of his contract; several months after breaking off negotiations for a contract extension.
