Serge Le Dizet arrived at Stade Rennais in 1982 from Quimper. This left-sided defender – capable of playing on the right if necessary – struggled to make his mark in his first three seasons as a Rennes player, making just 22 appearances. Loaned out to Quimper from 1985-1987 in order to kickstart his career, he came back and made himself an undisputed member of the squad. In the next five seasons, he was to make 188 appearances with Rennes, of which 2 in Division1. From 1987-1989, he was mainly used in midfield by Manager Raymond Kéruzoré. He then made the role of full-back his own. Attracted by his intelligence and tactical application, Jean-Claude Suaudeau lured Le Dizet to Nantes in 1992 having made 210 appearances, scoring 5 goals for Stade Rennais FC. Three seasons later, he became Champion of France with a team, who were renowned for playing football “à la Nantaise” (in Nantes’ style of the day.)
