In the search of a striker to complete their squad, Stade Rennais signed Silvio Romero on loan in August 2013. The player had come close to signing for Nantes during the same transfer window, and arrived in Rennes from Lanus in Argentina, with a 2.5 Million Euro buyout clause. After a legitimate period of adjustment, he took his chance on 4th December 2013 for the home game against Saint Etienne, where he did a good job replacing Oliveira, and scored a promising brace. However, he was never able to convince Manager Montanier, who left him on the bench, at first, then in the Reserves after the Winter transfer window, when the club signed Ntep, Toivonen and Grosicki. After scoring in the French Cup victory over Boulogne-sur-Mer 2014, he would never get to appear on another pitch in France. At the end of the season, the enigmatic Romero returned to his parent club, Lanus.
