Spotted playing for the youth team at Troyes, Slimane Sissoko joined Stade Rennais’ Academy in 2007. As the months went by, he managed to bed himself in among the young Rennes players thanks to his profile as a gifted centre-forward who was good in the air, who was an exceptional figure amongst the other hopefuls of that time. After a very mixed season with the Reserves in CFA (French 4th Division) in 2010/2011, Sissoko signed a professional contract with Rennes for one season in May 2011. It was a signature, which provoked a few raised eyebrows, but which almost certainly was done to show the willingness of the club to stay at the top of the league in terms of Academy sections across France by getting a maximum number of apprentices to sign contracts. At the end of a pre-season training camp in Carnac with the First Team, and an unconvincing trial at Laval, Sissoko’s contract was cancelled just 3 months after it had been signed.
