Lauded as one of the biggest hopes in French football at the end of the 1990s, Stéphane Dalmat ended up having a rather chaotic career. He played for numerous clubs, each one more prestigious than the last: notably with spells at Paris Saint Germain, Marseille, Bordeaux, Inter Milan and Tottenham. He was to find something approaching stability as he headed towards his 30s at Sochaux. He became a great professional football, by doing most of his work in the background, becoming a cog in the machine in the Doubs region of France. His profile attracted the interest of Frédéric Antonetti, who convinced his Board of Directors to recruit Dalmat in the summer of 2010. He brought a new solidity to the team’s structure, and helped Rennes hold their own against the big clubs of the league. His attacking contribution, however was insufficient. In the Autumn of 2011, he disappeared from the First Team, waited patiently without complaining for his contract to finish in June 2012. In July of that year, he signed for Nîmes, who were in Ligue 2.
