As a result of the disappointing performances of Alfred Gomis over two seasons, Stade Rennais sought out a new Number 1 goalkeeper in the summer transfer window in 2022. The choice was made to recruit 2018 World Champion, Steve Mandanda. Freed from his contract with Marseille, the famous brother of former Rennes player Riffi Mandanda signed a contract with Rennes, taking him to 2024. Mandanda stayed Number 1 at the club until the arrival of Brice Samba from Lens in the January transfer window in 2025. The experienced goalkeeper would make 98 appearances in a Rennes shirt before being released at the end of his contract in May 2025 after three years at the club.
