As a result of the disappointing performances of Alfred Gomis over two seasons, Stade Rennais sought out a new Number 1 goalkeeper in the summer transfer window in 2022. The choice was made to recruit 2018 World Champion, Steve Mandanda. Freed from his contract with Marseille, the famous brother of former Rennes player Riffi Mandanda signed a contract with Rennes, taking him to 2024.
