Developed at Stade Rennais, Thierry Turban joined the First Team squad under Manager Raymond Kéruzoré in 1988. On 22nd July 1989, the striker by trade took his first steps in professional football in Division 2 versus Lorient, and generated great expectations for the future after scoring on his debut. After 22 appearances, of which only 4 were in the starting line-up, he was loaned to Le Mans in Division 2 in the 1990/1991 season. In the 1991/1992 season, he only appeared 5 times as a substitute, but still managed to score two goals. Kept out of the attack by Musisi, Fahr and Darbelet, he only appeared 8 times in the 1992/1993 season, without finding the back of the net. At the end of the season, he left Rennes on a permanent move to Saint-Malo.
