In the Summer of 2010, Victor Hugo Montaño arrived from Montpellier in a transfer deal worth around 6.5 Million Euros. The Colombian centre-forward came to compensate the double loss of Briand and Sow at Stade Rennais. In spite of a successful integration at his new club, the striker found himself pretty much alone in attack in September after both Bangoura and Gyan left as well at the end of August. In his role of warrior, he worked hard to close down the opponents as the first line of defence, and had a solid first season, scoring 11 goals in all competitions. The competition for his place in the starting line-up hotted up considerably in 2011/2012 with Hadji and then Erding arriving during the Winter transfer window. After a 2012/2013 season hampered by injuries, Montaño returned to Montpellier for 800,000 Euros after 87 matches and 22 goals for the Red and Blacks.
