Despite having a promising future at Stade Rennais FC, Wesley Yamnaine would remain a huge disappointment for Rampillon and Rennes’ football development scheme. Although his favourite position was centre-back, tactical choices meant that he was picked to play at left-back, and the U16 and U17 youth international suffered from conflictual relations between his entourage and the management team at Rennes. His deployment as a left-back didn’t sit well with this representants, who ended up pushing the club into reluctantly dropping the youngster from the U19s and the Gambardella Cup (French FA Youth Cup) run. In Spring 2011, the separation was sealed when Yamnaine started to succumb to the lure of overseas clubs (notably Everton), although it wasn’t until October 2011 that he belatedly left Rennes, to join Parma in Italy.
