In 2006, Yacine Brahimi joined the Stade Rennais Academy setup after spells at Clairefontaine and Paris Saint Germain. Only two years later, this attacking midfielder, at ease on the left hand side of midfield, became one of the flourishing golden generation, along with M’Vila, Théophile-Catherine and Pajot, who lifted the Gambardella Cup (French FA Youth Cup) at the Stade de France. In the immediate aftermath, he signed a first professional contract with the Red and Blacks, but got left out in the cold - just like his teammates - with the arrival Lacombe for the 2008/2009 season. The following season, Brahimi was sent out on loan to Clermont, and he made a name for himself in Ligue 2, attracting the attention of a number of overseas clubs in the process. Manager of Rennes Dréossi then extended his contract for three seasons. In 2010/2011, he made an excellent start to the season, and scored his first goal in only his second match in a 3-0 victory at Nancy, before coming of age in January 2011. It was then that he really burst onto the scene demonstrating his pace, his technical ability and his goalscoring nous. Unfortunately, he was hampered by repeated injury problems, which spoiled his end to the season, as much as that of the team as a whole. In August 2012, he was loaned to Granada, who took advantage of the buyout clause of 4 Million Euros in May 2013.
