As a pure product of Rennes' Academy setup, Yannick Le Guen made his reserve team debut with the Red and Blacks in 1985, where he would play for two seasons. He went on to earn his spurs in the French Third Division, before joining the Professionals in 1987. Under the tutelage of the erstwhile First Team Manager, Raymond Kéruzoré, he wasn't able to make the breakthrough as a regular, and ended up making a meagre six appearances, of which four were in the starting line-up, in his two seasons.
In 1989; he left Rennes to join Vannes, who were playing in a lower division, for a season. Then he moved on the Cagnes sur Mer in the Fourth Division, where he would also only spend one solitary season playing in the Fourth Division. He finished his career with Avranches in the French Third Division, where he spent a total of ten seasons before hanging up his boots for good in 2001.
