After starting to play football in his native Besançon, Yohann Lasimant arrived late in 2006 at Stade Rennais’ Academy setup. This versatile striker, who was very much at ease on the right flank, made his mark in the youth teams and achieved a number of titles, of which the French U18 Championship in 2007, and particularly the Gambardella Cup (French FA Youth Cup) in 2008 alongside Théophile-Catherine, M’Vila and Brahimi. These good performances earned him call-ups with the French U19 and U20 sides, but also caught the eye of Rennes Manager Lacombe. Lasimant was regularly called upon to train with the First Team, and got his first selection with the First Team at Nancy in February 2009. After signing his first professional contract, with an option of a further year in April 2009, he finally made his Ligue 1 debut at Marseille in a 0-4 defeat on matchday 38. During the summer, he was loaned to Sedan, but was unable to make an impression. Out of contract, he joined Grenoble in June 2010.
