Abdelkrim Jinani arrived in July 1997 from Raja Casablanca for 1.2 Million Euros, along with his compatriot, defender Youssef Rossi. At a time when the club were seeking to rebuild it attack after the simultaneous departures of André, Guivarc’h and Wiltord, Jinani was the big unknown amongst the new signings in attack compared to the others: Hobsch, Bedrossian and Holtzman. After a rather bland start in a 0-1 defeat at Toulouse on the opening day of the season, and then another 90 minutes which was no better against Lyon (0-3 defeat), his Manager David pointed out all the shortcomings of his Moroccan striker. After a brief third appearance against Monaco, and the blossoming partnership of Goussé and Darcheville, Jinani was frozen out, and loaned to Laval during the Winter transfer window. Hardly any better during his stay in Mayenne, the Moroccan international (1 cap) was then loaned to Shenzhen in China, before being released, and he signed on a free transfer for Délémont in Switzerland.
