Alain Rochat arrived at Stade Rennais FC in the Summer of 2005 from Young Boys Bern. This left-back would also help out in central defence, replacing Le Lan, who was transferred to Guingamp, in a Rennes squad which was preparing to embark on a season in Europe. At the beginning of the season, he was first-choice under Bölöni, but the Swiss international had a difficult start in a team which struggled defensively. Singled-out for blame in the defeats against Nantes (0-3) and Le Mans (0-4), he paid a heavy price for his poor performance in a 0-6 thrashing at Nancy, where he scored an own-goal. Substituted after 38 minutes, Rochat no longer figured in the club’s plans after that, after Rennes signed Edman as left-back. After yet another own-goal in a match with nothing at stake against Salonica (1-5), he spent the rest of the season in the Reserves. In July 2006, he was loaned to Zürich, and then made his move permanent the following Summer, to the former club of Nonda.
