Andrès Fleurquin arrived at Stade Rennais FC in the Summer of 2002, just after the arrival of Dréossi as General Manager. This Uruguayan defensive midfielder had just been crowned Turkish champion with Galatasaray, and had experienced the Champions League (10 games, 1 goal). Under the management of Bergeroo, he took part as a linking midfielder alongside Sorlin and Batlles. But just as with two other summer signings (Loeschbor and Ivanov), his performances were very disappointing, to such as point that new Manager Halilhodzic only needed a couple of days of training to understand that he was not going to make Fleurquin into a player he could build a team around. In the end, his path to first team action was blocked by rising talents Bourillon and Faty, and he had only started 3 matches by the end of the season (2 of which came in the cup.) The failure was confirmed, and in July 2003, the Uruguayan international was transferred to Cordoba in the Spanish Second Division.
