The story of Guillaume Borne at Stade Rennais FC began when he took advantage of the injuries of Faty, Mensah and Adailton to earn his first start against Lorient in December 2006. In the preceding weeks, Manager Pierre Dréossi had given him the opportunity to make regular appearances as a substitute, coming on for the usual starting defenders. On the back of this promising start, he became the defensive replacement of choice. But despite some sound performances, he was unable to get past the competition of the defensive partnership of Hansson and Mensah. Guillaume Borne got to start the 2008/2009 season in the starting line-up, mainly thanks to the tardy recruitments. On the field, in an epic match against Marseille (4-4), he was drowning along with the rest of the Rennes defence in the first half. At half-time, with Rennes trailing 1-3, Borne was replaced by Mangane, and was subsequently loaned out to Brest, and never got to wear a Rennes shirt again after that. When he returned from his loan spell, he was definitively transferred to Boulogne.
