Jean-Marie David may have been a promising striker at the end of the 1990s at Stade Rennais’ Academy setup, but he didn’t manage the same progression as his team-mates of the time: Etienne Didot, Gaël Danic, Jean-Félix Dorothée or Makhtar N’Diaye. The Breton native wasn't offered a professional contract at Rennes, and ended up making the short journey to Lorient where he made one appearance in Division2. He went on to have an honorable career playing in National (French 3rd Division).
