On 5th October 2020, le Stade Rennais signed Jérémy Doku. Belgian international winger, only 18 years old. He became the most expensive signing in the history of the club, transferred for a record 26 M€ + bonus for the club that developed him, Anderlecht. On the eve of their first campaign in the Champions League, Rennes pulled off a major coup on the European transfer market. From his first appearances in a Rennes shirt, he would demonstrate why he would be a key player in the Rennes squad, thanks to his amazing power in one-on-one situations. A lively attacking player, and very adept with the ball at his feet, he would - however - be let down by his finishing from time-to-time. His first season with Rennes was a promising one, but the following two seasons would be overshadowed by numerous muscular injuries, which meant that he lost his place in the starting line-up. But Doku dug deep to return to his best form, putting a smile on the Red and Blacks' supporters faces, with an outstanding finish to the 2022/2023 season. His return to form proved to be a revelation, and it attracted numerous suitors amongst the top clubs in Europe. Having started the 2023/2024 season with Stade Rennais, he would be signed, a few days before the end of the Summer transfer window, by Manchester City (freshly-crowned Champions League and European Supercup winners) for a club record 65 Million Euros, putting Doku into the history books of the Red and Blacks.
