Career |
Born in Quimper, Jérémy Gélin arrived in Rennes in 2012 after a spell at the Pre-Training centre at Ploufragan. As a defensive midfielder or centre-back, and technically gifted, the Breton is one of the great hopes at Rennes’ Academy. A few days after Rennes Reserve team’s promotion to CFA (French 4th Division), he signed his first professional contract of 3 years on Friday 13th May 2016. In the 2017/2018 season, Gélin quickly established himself in the heart of the Rennes defence, alongside Joris Gnagnon in a season which finished with qualification for the Europa League. In the 2018/2019 season, he suffered from the competition with Da Silva and Mexer, He became a utility player, playing in midfield and at centre back. After a low-key season in 2019/2020, the Breton player was loaned - without a buyout clause - to Royal Antwerp on 5th October 2020.
