At the age of 18, Jérôme Lebouc left his native Vitré and his hometown club ASV to try his luck with the Amateur teams at Stade Rennais. Unlike his team-mates Anthony Réveillère or Cyril Yapi in the Reserves, he never had the chance, not even briefly, of getting picked in the First Team squad. After four years at Rennes, this midfielder, known for his powerful shot returned to AS Vitré in 2001. In 2003, he launched his career with Pau FC in National (French 3rd Division) and then helped Valenciennes in 2005 and Vannes in 2008 to gain promotion to Ligue 2.
