Jimmy Nirlo signed for Rennes from Jura Sud Foot in 2006, whilst a certain Mathieu Valbuena (also sought-after in the world of amateur football) decided to join Marseille. After two seasons with the Reserves in CFA (French 4th Division), one of which Nirlo finished with the title French Reserve Team Champion in 2007, Nirlo signed his first professional contract. This stocky and consistent defensive midfielder (sometimes central defender) was unable, however, to get his name on a team-sheet with the senior squad. Guy Lacombe left him out, much as his did to the other youngster such as M’Vila, Brahimi, Souprayen or Le Tallec. Jimmy Nirlo was invited to find a new club at the end of 2008. To the surprise of everyone, he joined Greek side Veria for six months, before returning to France, where he joined Pacy-sur-Eure in National (French 3rd Division.)
