Loïc Lambert arrived at Stade Rennais FC in the Summer of 1993 from Saint-Etienne. No sooner had Le Milinaire been given the reins of the team, he made his former protégé from Laval his priority on the transfer market. Lambert was a hardworking midfielder, good at clearing his lines, and he became indispensable at the club, helping them to achieve promotion back to the First Division in 1994. Vice-Captain behind Denis, the Sarthe-native was quick to adapt to his new team-mates in midfield (Ohrel, Gourvennec, Thomas, Huard, Lassissi and Rekdal) without ever letting up. In the 1997/1998 season, he progressively gave up the captain’s armband to new arrival Viaud, and lost his place in the team to revelations Grégoire and Bigné. But he still maintained an important role and the club, and kept the exemplary solidarity in the squad, which eventually secured safety on the last day of the season at Toulouse (1-0 win). He left the club in July 1998 to join Second Division side Valence. In 2007, he returned to Rennes to take charge of the amateur section of the club.
