Academy product of Cannes, Morgan Amalfitano started his professional career at Sedan, and joined Stade Rennais on 1st February 2017. Amalfitano was a versatile attacking midfielder, and the Nice-born player had already spent three years playing under the management of Christian Gourcuff at FC Lorient between 2008-2011. On 23rd February 2012 whilst playing for Marseille, he made his one and only appearance as a French international against Germany. Released by Lille on the first day of the summer transfer window, Amalfitano finally signed for Rennes outside of the transfer period. After some encouraging performances at the beginning of Christian Gourcuff’s time as manager, he suffered an injury which kept him out for the remainder of the season. Disappointing at the start of the following season, he was out of favour with new manager Sabri Lamouchi. Hardly used, the French international terminated his contract, which had two years still to run, by mutual consent on 2nd August 2018. In July 2019, having not found another club, he retired from the game as a player, and went for a reconversion as a Director at Fréjus Saint-Raphaël.
