Romain DEL CASTILLO

Stade Rennais signed Romain Del Castillo from Lyon on 20th June 2018. This attacking midfielder, at ease on either flank, had just come off the back of an excellent season with Nîmes on loan in Ligue 2. He left the club that had developed him for the sum of around 2 Million Euros to launch his career in the top flight with the Red and Blacks. After a rather low-key first season, but as French Cup winner in 2019, he played an increasingly important role in the 2019/2020 season, scoring his first goals for Rennes in the home game against Paris Saint Germain, and then against Montpellier in the last game before COVID-19 forced the Ligue 1 championship to shut down early. In the 2020/2021, he struggled to reach the levels attained previously, and was unable to take on the mantle of Raphinha, who had departed to Leeds. During his time at Rennes, Del Castillo provided, nonetheless, 16 assists, scoring a third and final goal for the club against Rosenborg in the Europa Conference League in August 2021, before making a permanent move to Brest on Transfer deadline day on 31st August 2021 in a deal worth 1.5 Million Euros
